Dr. Sahana S. V.
Dr. Sahana S. V. is among India's acclaimed Veena artistes, born into a family where music is a way of life. She began her training at the age of six and was performing by fourteen under Ganakabhushana M. J. Sreenivasa Iyengar. Further mentored by Padma Bhushan Sangeeta Kalanidhi T. N. Seshagopalan and Dr. T. V. Gopalakrishnan, her music reflects both technical mastery and a graceful, expressive artistry that bridges tradition and innovation. A distinguished educator and scholar, Dr. Sahana holds a Master's degree in Veena from the University of Madras and a doctorate from the University of Mysore for her pioneering research titled "The Impact of Advanced Technology on Karnatak Instrumental Music: A Study." She has qualified NET–UGC, receiving both Junior and Senior Research Fellowships, and secured First Rank with Distinction in Veena examinations conducted by the Karnataka State Secondary Education Board. Her academic work includes numerous published articles and presentations at national and international conferences.
As a music educator, Dr. Sahana believes in nurturing each student's creativity and emotional expression through the power of sound, creating a learning environment where students explore, listen, and express with confidence and joy. Blending rigour with sensitivity, she brings both depth of scholarship and heartfelt artistry to her teaching, inviting students to experience the Veena not only as an instrument of musical expression but also as a pathway to focus, grace, and inner stillness. She strives to balance technical skill with artistic growth, guiding learners to discover their unique musical voice while honouring the rich heritage of Carnatic music.

Students Testimonials
I have been learning veena under SV Sahana for the past several years, and studying with her has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my musical journey. She has taught me not only the technical aspects of veena playing but also how to approach music with patience, discipline, and feeling. Her explanations of ragas and compositions are clear and deeply insightful, and she always ensures that I understand the essence of what I am playing. Sahana ma’am’s encouragement and constant guidance have helped me gain confidence both in practice and performance. I am truly grateful to be her student and strongly recommend her as an exceptional veena teacher.
